My Yummy Breakfast Smoothie

If you visit this blog frequently, then you know that back in early April , I embarked on a long-term effort to lose weight.  I call it the lose-a-pound-a-week program, after a thread over at the Amazon Kindle board forums. ( Did you join me?)  For most of the past two months, I’ve had a blueberry smoothie for breakfast.  As of this morning I have lost fifteen pounds.  Yay!  Still need to lose much more.  (Maybe six months from now I’ll post before and after pictures.) Keep reading to find out how you, too, can make this delicious smoothie for breakfast, or any other time. 🙂

Blueberry Smoothie

Doesn’t that look yummy?  It sure tastes good.

To make this you need yogurt, milk, a banana, and frozen blueberries.  (You could substitute any frozen fruit in the same amount.)

I use whole milk and whole milk yogurt, because it is more filling and keeps the hunger pangs away longer.

Measure out a heaping 1/2 cup of yogurt, and 1/4 cup of milk.  Place the yogurt into a blender. ( I use my Vita-Mix.) Then put in the milk.  (If you put in the milk first, the yogurt will splash drops of milk all over the place.)

Next, measure out a heaping 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries (or strawberries, or peaches, etc.).

We have our own blueberry bushes so I have lots of blueberries in the freezer.

Dump the blueberries into the blender on top of the yogurt and milk.  Peel the banana and break it into pieces.  Drop the banana pieces onto top of the blueberries.

Since I am severely limiting the sugar I eat, I put in one packet of Stevia, an herbal sweetener.  Read the labels and try to buy pure Stevia in the organic section.  The commercial brands have junk in them.

All ready to whirr together.

Turn your machine on low, then gradually turn the speed up to high. Let it blend for twenty to thirty seconds, or until everything is blended and smooth.  (My Vita-Mix only takes about 25 seconds.)

Now your blueberry smoothie is ready to drink. Soooo good.

A Filling Blueberry Smoothie for One Person:

1/2 heaping cup yogurt  ( I use plain, whole milk.)

1/4 cup milk

1 banana, peeled and broken into pieces

1/2 heaping cup frozen blueberries

1 packet Stevia natural herbal sweetener (if desired)

Put all ingredients into a blender or Vita Mix and blend until smooth.

This makes one glass.  If you are making for more than one person, adjust the ingredients accordingly.
